MEDIA
Li Shan Zeng
Chinese Central Television (CCTV) Video Translation
Professor Charles (Chao Ji) Xu has been a Chinese Medicine practitioner for 40 years. He heard about a local Chinese girl who had a stroke leading to coma. 28 year old Li Shan Zeng came to Australia for a holiday with her boyfriend 3 years ago.
During her stay she worked in a beef processing plant in Perth. Li Shan and her boyfriend had planned to get married. Unfortunately, she suffered a catastrophic stroke secondary to a severe infection. At diagnosis, she was in a critical condition with part of her brain infarcted and doctors asked her family to prepare for the worst.
Her family was devastated by this news and asked the Chinese Consulate General in Perth to find a Chinese Medicine practitioner. The Consulate General made some enquiries and found Professor Xu.
Under normal circumstances Western hospitals are reluctant to allow treatment of patients with Traditional Chinese medicine. The Consulate General worked hard to convince the hospital given the exceptional circumstances. The hospital finally granted access for Prof. Xu with the condition that if patient did not respond in 5 days treatment would be stopped.
Li Shan was already in coma for nearly a month and was dependent on life support. Incredibly during the fifth day of Acupuncture treatment, Li Shan awoke. Not only was she able to slowly blink and cough, but was also able to lift her arms and legs and breathe without the life support machine.
When the staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Perth visited her in hospital Li Shan was able to sit up. Her mother said that the Consulate General and Chinese Medicine saved her daughter’s life. The whole family were very grateful.
Luke Adams
Luke in the WAFL before the injury
Luke with Prof. Xu in 2017
Luke was a well known WAFL Swan Districts Footballer who sustained a severe head injury from an one punch attack in Northbridge in 2011. He underwent emergency brain surgery due to the severity of his injury. Luke's outcome was uncertain and he was placed in an induced coma for several weeks. During that time Professor Xu provided Acupuncture for Luke on a regular basis. Luke has undergone a great ordeal since his injury and today is a highly functional individual. We are very grateful to have known Luke and his family and will continue to support him in the future.
